The Way of the Dragon (1972)

“Tang Lung, soon you will be a dead man!” – Ho

Number of Times Seen – 1 (25 Oct 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A man travels to visit relatives in Italy and must help them fight off gangsters.

My Take on it – This is a movie that has such a silly plot, but is slightly elevated by the action scenes, but even that isn’t enough.

Brice Lee directed this movie and it is easy to see how he spotlights himself throughout (obviously understandably).

The story has much to be desired because of the silliness and simplistic nature of it all.

The fight scenes are also done in a pretty simplistic way until Lee himself gets involved in the various fights and then it is quite easy to see who the true master is.

The best part of this film is obviously the climactic fight between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris.

The fight is choreographed quite well, but seems a bit too staged at certain points which hurts things a lot especially given the way that Norris is shown here.

None of the characters in this film are developed at all and that also hurts things a lot because despite the family and their employees being tormented by gangsters, it’s quite hard to really care about any of them or about what will happen to them if they don’t listen to the what the gangsters want.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – According to the assistant director, Ching-Shun Mao, filming around the Colosseum was strictly forbidden, and the few scenes actually filmed there were quickly shot without the knowledge of the Roman authorities. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)
