Number of Times Seen – 1 (26 Oct 2021)
Brief Synopsis – A con man travels to the Far East and gets into a situation beyond his control.
My Take on it – Matt Dillon is a great actor, but even he can’t make this story come across in a more interesting or thrilling way. The story comes across in a very bland way and makes it so much more difficult to care about what will happen as things unfold. James Caan is always great in mysterious roles like the one he plays here and his performance elevates the film a bit, even if not enough.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The fruit that Sok (Kem Sereyvuth) takes back for his wife is durian. This green, soccer-ball-sized fruit has a green spiky rind and yellow, custard-like sweet flesh. It is famous for its odour. In fact, it stinks so much that it is forbidden to carry it on certain airlines, as well as in Singapore’s public transport system. This is why Jimmy (Matt Dillon) asks “Is it supposed to smell like that?” (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
