Army of Thieves (2021)

“It’s not just about the money, Brad. It’s about the quest. ” – Gwendoline

Number of Times Seen – 1 (31 Oct 2021)

Brief Synopsis – As the Zombie Apocalypse is just beginning in Las Vegas, a little known safe cracker is recruited for a heist in Europe that will include three very rare and possibly unbreakable safes.

My Take on it – This was a film that I heard about a few months ago and due to really enjoying Army of the Dead (2021), I was quite intrigued to watch this prequel.

The film does a great job of explaining about their slowly changing world and allows the viewer to get a vivid view from the outside of how it all begins to unfold.

Matthias Schweighöfer is superb here as the lead actor/director and writer.

They are able to give the viewer such a deeper understanding who this character is and why he was eventually brought in to help in Army of the Dead (2021).

The story is told in an epic fashion and they made things feel very fairy tale-like which adds so much to things here.

The fact that the fate of the main character is already known from the previous film doesn’t diminish anything at all and still lets the story flow so well.

the supporting cast is also great and they add so much to the atmosphere of things.

Love that this film is both a stand alone film and a companion piece because it helps keep things so much more engaging due to the duality of it.

The way that they use effects here to show the viewer all about the background mechanisms of a safe is done really well and helps give even more meaning and understanding to everything that transpires here.

The film’s tone is great and allows for things to be both somber, serious and funny which adds so much to it all.

I now have to rewatch the original film in order to get even more insights into the character there based on what the depict here.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The name of the safe, “Götterdämmerung”, translated to English is “Twilight of the Gods”. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
