Brief Synopsis – Four gunman take over a New York City Subway train and ask for a million dollar ransom.

My Take on it – This is one of my all time favorite films and it is so much whenever I revisit it.

The story is told in such a fascinating and thrilling way and stays engaging and suspenseful the entire way through.

Robert Shaw is superb in the lead role as the lead terrorist and gives the viewer just enough information about his character to know that he is not one that should be messed with.

Walter Matthau plays the Transit detective trying to figure out the plan of these criminals and help save the passengers.

The film’s score is amazing and I loved the way that they have no music when they show the subway train scenes and instead have dead silence.

The dialogue is superb and the witticisms of the characters are so enjoyable to listen to as they throw jabs at one another over and over.

The plot is set up really well and they find new and innovative ways throughout to keep the tension level constantly on the rise throughout.

In addition to the two leads, there are lost f great supporting roles played by Martin Balsam, Jerry Stiller, Hector Elizondo, Earl Hindman, Dick O’Neil, James Broderick, Doris Robert, Lee Wallace and Tony Roberts.

One of the very best thrillers ever made!

Highly Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – David Shire’s score was chosen as one of the top 10 film scores of all time by NPR film music expert Andy Trudeau. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy (10/10) (no change from original review)
