Genre Guesstimation – Snowball Express (1972)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s genre has been chosen by Marc of French Toast Sundays and we will be reviewing our favorite Live Action Disney Films.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Nov by sending them to disneylivemarc@movierob.net

Tnx Marc!

Try to think out of the box!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Live Action Disney Films…….

“This road’s got more crooks than a miners’ convention. ” – Jesse McCord

Number of Times Seen – 1 (11 Nov 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A businessman inherits an abandoned hotel and decides to try and turn it into a successful ski resort.

My Take on it – Fun Disney film headlined by Dean Jones.

They do a nice job of taking something that might feel like a simple plot and making it so enjoyable to watch.

the comedy elements of the movie work well in helping to establish the way that things can change in life and yet still give hope to the characters.

Jones was a staple in Disney films of the late 60’s and 70’s and excels in this role because he seems so mild-mannered, but is great with his physical comedy the whole way through.

Loved seeing harry Morgan in the role of the town nut and he brings so much to this kind of character that helps make it even more engaging and enjoyable to watch unfold.

Thankfully, this film knows not to take itself too seriously and that helps keep things nice and light in all that they do which helps both adults and kids enjoy this kind of story.

The snowmobile race is great and adds so much to the action and fun of it all.

Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Harry Morgan, who played Jessie McCord, stated that he was “single & 75”. In reality, Harry Morgan was only 57. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not quite. Fun film, but still missing something that would have propelled it higher..

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
