The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.
This month’s genre has been chosen by Marc of French Toast Sundays and we will be reviewing our favorite Live Action Disney Films.
Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Nov by sending them to disneylivemarc@movierob.net
Tnx Marc!
Try to think out of the box!
Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Live Action Disney Films…….
“We got to put some distance between us and this town or it’s going to become our permanent residence, and I mean permanent. ” – Theodore Olevie
Number of Times Seen – At least 3 times (TV in the 70’s and 80’s15 Nov 2021)
Brief Synopsis – Continuing adventures of Theodore and Amos as they try to become good citizens of the Old West.
My Take on it – I decided that in order to make my guest choices of the Genre for the Genre Grandeur series more personal (and expand my own personal horizons of these genres), I will take a recommendation from my guest for a film to watch for this Genre Guesstimation series.
This duology was Marc’s choice for me to watch.
This film, like it’s predecessor, was a film that I saw a few times as a kid and recalled enjoying it very much besides the fact that I couldn’t remember anything about the plot.
This sequel relies solely on the comic genius of its two leads and that helps make things so enjoyable to watch.
Tim Conway and Don Knotts are perfectly cast in these roles and they find so many ways to keep the audience entertained and laughing throughout.
The plot moves in such great ways that the comedy of errors just snowballs into something better and better as things progress.
the way that they integrate so many aspects of the old West into this tale is great and that helps keep things quite enjoyable the entire time.
The supporting cast is also great with harry Morgan (in a different role from the 1st film), Tim Matheson and Robert Pine all adding so much color to the story.
They manages to mix together comedy, romance, Intrigue and action together so well here that the final result is extremely enjoyable to take in.
It’s rare that a sequel manages to surpass the original, but in this case they definitely succeeded IMHO.
Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Disney’s marketing department added a small sticker to the film’s poster saying “All New!” possibly due to the fact that people thought this was just a re-release (which The Disney Company was well known for during the ’70s, ’80s and’ 90s) of the original film The Apple Dumpling Gang (1975). Posters exist both with and without the sticker. (From IMDB)
Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Comes really close. Such a fun film that sur[passes its predecessor in so many ways. Conway and Knotts shine in these roles.
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
