Lord of Illusions (1995)

“The grave is lonely, but living is worse. ” – Nix

Number of Times Seen – 1 (16 Nov 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A private investigator who deals with the supernatural gets involved in a job that takes him places he never expected.

My Take on it – I have always been a fan of Scott Bakula due to his stint on Quantum Leap and then Star Trek: Enterprise and when I came across this film, I began to wonder how he would fair in a supernatural horror film.

Unfortunately, he isn’t able to make this story any more enjoyable.

The story itself is told in a strange way and it is full of far too many plot holes which leaves things open and unexplained.

The special effects were probably quite good for the time it was made, but looking at it now, it’s far too easy to see the seams on the edges which take so much away from things.

The characters aren’t developed at all and some of them keep switching back and forth between being good or evil depending on the mood of the scene.

Bakula is ok here, but it’s a bit of a stretch to truly believe him playing this character because certain things that he does look so forced and unrealistic to watch unfold.

The mystery aspect of this film also isn’t up to par and they leave too much hanging.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When casting for the film began, Clive Barker picked Famke Janssen’s photo out of the hundreds of initial submissions and declared, “This is Dorothea.” She remained the only choice, although the filmmakers auditioned dozens of actresses for the part. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
