Surviving Evidence (2012)

“Don’t tell me what to do!” – Jason

Number of Times Seen – 1 (16 Nov 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A group of students trapped in a school during a Zombie outbreak try to find ways to stay alive despite the terror outside.

My Take on it – This is a zombie movie that I came across by accident.

It turns out that this is a student film that was made 9 years ago by a group of high school students during their free time over the course of over a year.

The story is done really well especially when taking into consideration the limitations that they had when making this.

They do a nice job of developing these characters and the dialogue says so much about who they all are and what they think about the situation that they find themselves in.

Watching a film like this during the age of COVID is quite interesting because of the relevance of the way that the characters act and talk which can be transplanted to this new situation and it still makes sense almost a decade later.

The film starts off during a school assembly where they discuss getting infected and having to distance themselves which seems somewhat prophetic.

This assembly actually made me wonder whether it was secretly filmed during a real assembly or whether these kids were able to organize this kind of scene themselves.

The film does a nice job focusing on the characters more than the situation and the viewer gets an impression as to the psychological and physical effects on someone during this kind of pandemic.

The props and effects are quite minimal here, but they still manage to achieve what they are trying to do and that in and of itself is quite impressive.

Love the way that they have two characters constantly filming while walking around with video cameras since it helps explain how this kind of found footage story could feel even more genuine and realistic.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The majority of those involved with this movie were teenagers, with the exception of Alex Weider and certain ‘Infected’ actors. Avishai Weinberger was 18 when the movie was completed. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
