Number of Times Seen – 1 (18 Nov 2021)
Brief Synopsis – Sam Beckett leaps into an American student in Paris in 1997 where he must try and save The Princess of Wales from a tragic accident.
My Take on it – I have always been a HUGE fan of Quantum Leap ever since I saw my first episode 30+ years ago.
This is a fan film that works really well and manages to capture the essence of the show despite it’s very low production.
It was a bit off kilter for me seeing different actors playing Sam and Al, but I liked how they were able to play them in a way that was at least reminiscent of them.
The story takes the high road here and allows the story to take place within the realm of reason since they work more on the characters than the historical significance of things.
I really liked the way that they manage to bring in Executive decision making into the whole Quantum Leap process because it allows for things to be seen from a more powerful and poignant perspective since bureaucracy is involved in the decision making process as opposed to just having Ziggy (the computer) helping Al help Sam figure out what he must do.
The effects are minimal, yet still work quite well here.
The best part of this story is the fact that Deborah Pratt, one of the creators of the show does the voice work for Ziggy which adds so much to the story because her appearance here (not in archival footage) shows that the show runners at least in some ways approved the making of this as well as gave to hand in some way or another.
It’s too bad that this show was canceled after only 5 years.
The recent passing of Den Stockwell at 85 is quite sad, but at lest he left us with so many memorable performances especially in every episode of this show.
RIP Dean!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The film takes place from August 30 to August 31, 1997. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
