The Edge (1997)

“A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow. ” – Stephen

Number of Times Seen – 1 (22 Nov 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A millionaire and his entourage are stranded in the wilderness of Alaska and must find a way to safety after a ferocious bear begin to track them.

My Take on it – This is a great thriller that does a wonderful job developing its characters to a point where the viewer can easily care about what will happen.

The characters are intelligent and their conversations feel quite meaningful throughout as they try to help one another survive this terrifying ordeal.

The action scenes with the bear are presented in such a realistic way that it adds so much to the suspense and tension of everything that transpires here.

Love the way that this film puts characters in deadly situations where they must make split second decisions as to how to act but more importantly how to treat others when these situations arise.

Anthony Hopkins is superb in the lead role and his chemistry with Alec Baldwin is great throughout.

Love the ambiguity of the films title because these characters are at the same time at the Edge of Civilization and the Edge of Sanity for the duration of the film.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Sir Anthony Hopkins had a brush with death during filming in Alberta. He was taking painkillers for a neck problem. He fell in a river, and didn’t feel how cold he was becoming until he began to suffer from hypothermia. He had to be rushed to the hospital to be treated. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
