“The truth does not matter, there is only the power of men.” – Nicole de Carrouges
Number of Times Seen – 1 (5 Dec 2021)
Brief Synopsis – In 14th Century France, a knight demands a way to prove his honor after his name and family is shamed, by challenging the squire who caused the problems to a duel to the death.
My Take on it – This is a Ridley Scott film that I’ve been anticipating for a while.
It was written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and both have prominent parts in the film.
The movie gives the viewer a very interesting perspective in the events since it shows them from the three different viewpoints of the trio of people involved in the story.
Matt Damon, Jodie Comer and Adam Driver are all superb in these role due to the emotion that they all manage to imbue along the way.
The statement that that there always at least three truths in any given situation (his truth, her truth and the real truth) is perfectly shown here since each of the characters are convinced that their version of events is truly what happened.
The film does a great job of letting the viewer decide what is the real truth here since it doesn’t ever give a definitive answer to that question which is great.
The action scenes are done really well here and that helps transport the viewer back to a different time and place.
The one problem I had here is the wig that Matt Damon’s character needs to wear seems so fake and unfitting for him because it makes him look more like Rowdy Roddy Piper than Matt Damon.
Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Matt Damon cannot grow facial hair, so the makeup department had to try out 20 different beards to apply to his face. He reportedly got a skin rash underneath the stuck-on beard, which was so irritating that he had to be treated with ice packs after every scene while shooting the movie. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
