Serial Mom (1994)

“Mom, are you a serial killer?” – Chip

“The only “serial” I know anything about is Rice Krispies.” – Beverly

Number of Times Seen – 1 (12 Dec 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A typical housewife decides to start killing off the people causing problems for each of her family members.

My Take on it – This is a film that goes just a bot too far in its attempt to show a parody of what could conceivably be seen from the outside as the perfect family.

The story this film depicts feels ripped from the headlines of the early 90’s when it came out.

Kathleen Turner is a superb actress, but even she has far too much trouble convincing people that her psychotic character is actually doing i out from the good nature of her heart.

Th story goes into some very extreme (and gory) situations that try to satirize the various scenarios that have probably occurred in some form or another at the time this was made.

Sam Waterston is so much fun to watch as Turner’s husband who looks a blind eye on everything that seems to happen around them.

The movie is presented in a very campy fashion and that also makes it much more difficult to take any of this story more seriously.

Further proof as to how strange and crazy Director John Waters truly is.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The copyright holders of the song “Tomorrow,” as heard when Mrs. Jenson watches Annie (1982) in her living room, charged $60,000 for the rights to use the song because of the explicit content of John Waters’ past films. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)
