Encanto (2021)

“[Abuela Alma has just rebuked Mirabel for ‘ruining’ the Madrigal family] I’ll never be good enough for you, No matter how hard I try to help. Luisa will never be strong enough, Isabela will never be *perfect* enough. Bruno’s predictions will never be what you wanted to know or hear. This family will never be perfect enough for you. You are so busy worrying about everything being perfect, that you are ignoring what is wrong. The casita, our home is dying because of *you*! ” – Mirabel

Number of Times Seen – 1 (24 Dec 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A young girl must find a way to deal with the fact that she is the only member of her family without special powers.

My Take on it –  Fun addition to the Disney Canon despite the fact that it doesn’t resonate as well as some of the other films from them.

The characters are fresh and unique and I really liked the way that they had each one with a special and unique kind of strength/power.

The message about family unity is done well and helps keep things feeling more poignant along the way.

The music is great and the way that they blend together sounds from various regions adds to the power of the story.

They do a nice job of adding conflict to the story and that raises the stakes more as thing progress.

The animation style is a bit different than what we are use to getting form Disney, but once you get used to it along the way, it ceases to be noticeable.

Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Mirabel is the first female Disney protagonist to wear glasses. (From IMDB)
