Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) – Encore Review 7

“I guess this is probably a good time as any to tell you this. Our tickets are only good to St. Louis. St. Louis to Chi-town is booked tighter than Tom Thumb’s ass.” – Del

Brief Synopsis – A businessman on his way back to Chicago from New York does all he can to get home before Thanksgiving.

My Take on it – This is a movie that I have always loved ever since I first saw it nearly 25 years ago.

The characters are so different, yet they have such amazing chemistry that works so perfectly throughout.

Steve Martin and John Candy are perfectly cast in these roles and know how to take each of their characters to the edge and slightly beyond in order to keep it so enjoyable to watch.

The film’s story is constantly on the move and whenever they manage to extricate themselves from a given situation, a new one is waiting just around the corner.

This movie is 93 minutes long and stays so fascination from start to finish.

There are so many iconic scenes in this movie and the dialogue is extremely quotable over and over.

They get the mix between drama/sentiment and comedy just perfect that helps make it so entertaining to take in.

This is the kind of movie I can watch again and again and can’t wait to see it again.

Highly Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Prior to shooting, John Candy arrived with exercise equipment for him to use during production. Crews had installed a treadmill, bench press, weights, and other exercise gear in his hotel suite. Steve Martin said Candy never used any of it. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy (10/10) (no change from original review)
