“What am I gonna do now?” – Harmon Cobb
Number of Times Seen – 1 (26 Dec 2021)
Brief Synopsis – A lawyer is charged with taking the case of defending a German POW who is accused of murdering the prison doctor.
My Take on it – Very intriguing idea that is presented well for a made for TV film.
Walter Matthau is superb in the lead role and manages to give the audience a very sympathetic character to root for.
The character is developed quite well and the story is able to add some interbal coinflict into his life which adds to his struggle between duty to his profession and country and to his own perosnal feelings.
Since this is a made for TV movie, they aren’t able to add a larger scope to the story while would have enhanced it even more.
The courtroom scenes are done really well and the back and forth with witnesses and between the lawyers and judge help keep things quite engaging from start to finish.
Really liked the way that this story shows the extended family and how close knit they become during this very difficult time especially given the patriotic feel that they all have for their country.
They also do a great job trying to show how people felt for German prisoners at the time without much knowledge beyond what they must have heard form others or read in newspapers which also contributes to the conflict of the film.
The story has a nice level of mystery to it which also helps keep things even more interesting to wonder what the eventual outcome of this case will be.
