“Hi Nick, do you remember the story they told us about in training? Washington’s female agent, agent 355. That’s what they called her?” – Mac
“Because they did not know her name.” – Nick Fowler
“No somebody knew her name. They just did not want the world to know it.” – Mac
Number of Times Seen – 1 (30 Jan 2022)
Brief Synopsis – A group of female intelligence agents band together to stop a new world threat based on technology.
My Take on it – This was a movie that I actually had high expectations for given the great cast.
Unfortunately, it fails to give us something more profound because it plays things out too much as a typical generic origins story.
The cast is the best thing about this movie with Jessica Chastain, Penelope Cruz, Sebastian Stan, Edgar Ramirez, Lupita Nyong’o, Diane Kruger and Bingbing Fin.
It’s too bad that the film isn’t able to bring something fresh and innovative into the genre because it never seem to really work here.
The action scenes are done well and the choreography of them adds a bit to the story despite the various other flaws of this film.
Noen of the characters feel developed on more than a superficial level and that also hurts things because it doesn’t seem as if any of them are anything more than stereotypical of this kind of genre and all seem like cardboard cut-outs.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Jessica Chastain proposed the idea for a female-led spy film in the same spirit as the Mission: Impossible and James Bond series to her Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg while in production on that film. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)
