Fantastic Four (2005)

“[Sitting on the Brooklyn Bridge] Oh yeah Ben, few days in space, it’ll be great, what’s the worst that could happen?” – Ben Grimm

Number of Times Seen – Twice (22 Aug 2005 and 23 Feb 2022)

Brief Synopsis – A group of scientists get exposed to strange matter in space and gain super powers.

My Take on it – This is a movie that gets too much flak for what it’s not instaed of looking at what it is.

Before there was the MCU, this film brought together four characters with superpowers who need to learn to work together to fight evil while also learning to use and appreciate their new found powers.

The cast is great with Ioan Gruffudd leading the team that also features Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis.

The problem here isn’t the characters or the special effects because they are done well, but rather the fact that the story itself isn’t more complex and engaging since it mostly seems as if the things that these characters are tasked with, all seem a bit too simplistic.

The way that they show the camaraderie of these characters forming a team is done well and helps enhance things a bit despite the fact that something still feels missing throughout.

The villain of Dr. Doom is suppose to be much more menacing that the one that Julian McMahon brings to this franchise.

This group of superheros have so much potential for a future franchise, but so far, no one has managed to make one that feels engaging and entertaining enough.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Stan Lee has said that Michael Chiklis’s Thing is his favourite performance in any “Marvel” film ever. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
