Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)

“[to the Silver Surfer] There are certain things I’m not permitted to do because they’re considered human rights violations. Fortunately, you’re not human. ” – Mr. Sherman

Number of Times Seen – Twice (24 Aug 2008 and 23 Feb 2022)

Brief Synopsis – When an alien creature shows up on Earth, the fantastic Four must try and figure out what his motives are.

My Take on it – Another ok addition to this franchise.

The characters are helped by the fact that they no longer need to be introduced to their own super powers.

The story does a nice job creating enough friction between the various characters to make them feel more realistic.

The special effects are done well and help make this pre-MCU superhero movie feel as if they are living in a realistic world.

They do a nice job showing how popular superheros can get as their celebrity is on the rise.

The cast from the first film all return and they add Andre Braugher, Doug Jones, and (the voice of) Laurence Fishburne which works really well.

My favorite character here tho is the minister played by Brian Posehn who must perform numerous wedding duties as the venues and time of the nuptials is constantly on the move.

The story could have been a bit more powerful and if they had raised the tension level a bit more that also could have helped, because the way it is all presented here, just doesn’t manage to stand up.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – As a way of the promoting the film, 20th Century Fox brokered a deal with the Franklin Mint to produce 40,000 US quarters with the Silver Surfer on the reverse. The US Mint vetoed this promotion. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
