Saving Silverman (2001)

“Dude, if you get the nachos stuck together, that’s one nacho.” – J.D.

Number of Times Seen – Twice (10 Oct 2001 and 1 Mar 2022)

Brief Synopsis – After their friend gets into a risky relationship, two slackers decide to try and save him form a marriage in Hell.

My Take on it – Fun movie that goes a bit too far.

The cast is superb with Steve Zahn, Jack Black and Jason Biggs playing the trio of friends.

Amanda Peet is great against type as this girlfriend from Hell.

The story has some great gags that work, but most of it is just rehashing the same kind of joke over and over which is a bit disappointing.

Loved seeing R. Lee Ermy in the film and his drill sergeant persona is perfect for the kind of football coach he is cast here as.

Deep down, these characters have their friend’s best interest in mind, yet it isn’t necessarily presented well enough along the way.

There are far too many scenes and parts of the film that don’t seem believable due to the rapid way that these things transpire throughout the story.

The very best thing about this movie tho is the strong chemistry between the three male leads who truly can make the viewer believe that they have been friends for decades by the point that this film hones in to their lives.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The Coach’s motto to his students, “If you can dream it, you can do it” is actually a quote originally said by Walt Disney. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
