The Weather Man (2005)

“I remember once imagining what my life would be like, what I’d be like. I pictured having all these qualities, strong positive qualities that people could pick up on from across the room. But as time passed, few ever became any qualities that I actually had. And all the possibilities I faced and the sorts of people I could be, all of them got reduced every year to fewer and fewer. Until finally they got reduced to one, to who I am. And that’s who I am, the weather man.” – Dave Spritz

Number of Times Seen – Twice (28 Oct 2006 and 1 Mar 2022)

Brief Synopsis – An up and coming TV weather man tries to find the secret to success both at home and at work.

My Take on it – This is a film with an intriguing idea, but it falls far too short of being effective.

The cast is quite talented with Nicolas Cage, Michael Caine and Hope Davis in the three main roles, but the plot as written isn’t strong enough for any of them to help make this movie more interesting to watch unfold.

None of the characters are written in a likeable way and that makes it so hard to want to root for any of them along the way.

Cage’s character is the biggest problem because it’s easy to see how insensitive and apathetic he really is to everything in life ranging from his crumbling home life and relationships with his wife and kids and with his boredom with his own profession.

The best part about this movie is the fact that Cage constantly gets random kinds of food thrown on him throughout because by the way his characters acts, he does feel like he deserved it every time.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The food that hits Nicolas Cage throughout this movie was thrown by director Gore Verbinski. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)
