“Life is short. You get 60 spins around the sun and that’s it. So why not do something positive with it.” – Randy Credico
Number of Times Seen – 1 (2 Mar 2022)
Brief Synopsis –Documentary about standup comic Randy Credico who became an advocate for social justice.
My Take on it – This is a documentary that I came across solely due to its very unique sounding title.
I had never heard of Credico at all beforehand, but the synopsis got me quite curious to find out what it was all about.
The film chronicles the life of Credico who began his career as a stand up comic and then one day decided to use his talents to become an advocate for social issues in New York and eventually around the world.
The film has lots of interviews with fellow comics who give their opinions of his work over the years while also giving the viewer a glimpse into his personal life via interviews with many of his former girlfriends who adored his passion for issues, yet somehow he quiet often lacked a similar amount of passion for them.
His comic routines are shown in the film and largely focused on celebrity impressions which are quite spot on.
He even managed to slightly annoy Johnny Carson on his debut on the show where he did an impersonation of the comic who chose not to invite Randy to the chair next to her after this impression.
The film also has many discussions with Randy himself about his comedic past and his reasoning for taking on all of these social justice cases as an advocate.
The movie is engaging, but still lacks something that would have made it much more powerful to watch and leaves the viewer feeling unsatisfied because it doesn’t feel complete in the story it is trying o tell.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Director Laura Kightlinger is a former SNL cast member from the 1994-5 season. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
