Back to the Future Part II (1989) – Encore Review 4

“That’s right, Doc. November 12, 1955.” – Marty McFly

“Unbelievable, that old Biff could have chosen that particular date. It could mean that that point in time inherently contains some sort of cosmic significance. Almost as if it were the temporal junction point for the entire space-time continuum. On the other hand, it could just be an amazing coincidence.” – Doc

Number of Times Seen – Too many to count (Theater in ’89, cable, video, DVD, 11 Jun 2013, 13 Nov 2014, 21 Oct 2015, 20 Feb 2020 and 2 Mar 2022)

Brief Synopsis – Marty is taken 30 years into the future by Doc in order to stop a catastrophe from happening.

My Take on it – Such an amazing sequel that retains so much of the charm from the original while also feeling fresh and innovative.

The ideas shown in this film can either entertain immensely or give someone a huge headache, but either way, it’s such a fun ride through.

The fact that they know very well how to not take themselves so seriously throughout adds so much to the tone of the story.

The film takes the ideas of time travel to places that most people never imagined and helped make things still feel very accessible to everyone and anyone.

Love the fact that the story takes the characters to places that they have already been and we get to see them watching themselves doing things that they themselves experienced.

The ‘future’ that this film predicts never came to fruition, yet this still remains one of the very few movies that depicts the future as a fun place and not one filled with evil and dread and that is so much fun to ponder as to why.

Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – According to Michael J. Fox, he found out there was going to be a sequel to Back to the Future (1985) when he watched the VHS version and the words “To be continued” were added at the end. He immediately called his agent to make sure he was going to be in the sequel. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10) (no change from original review)
