Brief Synopsis – Two rugged Chicago detectives debate whether to keep doing the job they love or retire in style to Florida as they pursue a drug dealer.
My Take on it – Such a fun film that works really well due to the presence of Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines.
They have such wonderful chemistry together and the various antics that they pull add so much to the entertainment of the story.
The film does a great job showing how people can easily change their minds about the various kinds of work just by a change of scenery and it’s easy to see the way that the vacation trip that these characters take can effect their mindset and alternatively also their level of feelings of security in the dangerous detective work that they do.
Jimmy Smits is ok as the villain, but he is much better in the role of the good guy than as someone trying to be devious.
The story manages to blend comedy and action together quite well and it’s too bad that this was the only pairing of this duo.
Love the music and score and it enhances things so much.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Gary Devore, the screen writer for this movie, disappeared in June 1997, while driving at night from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Santa Barbara, California, prompting an extensive search and media speculation. A year later, he and his car were discovered submerged below a bridge over the California Aqueduct near Palmdale, California off Highway 14. Devore was driving back from home. It is believed that Devore may have fallen asleep and drove into the aqueduct, however some conspiracy theories claim he was murdered. (From IMDB)
