The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.
This month’s genre has been chosen by me and we will be reviewing our favorite Oscar Nominated or Winning Movies.
Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Mar by sending them to andtheOscargoesto…@movierob.net
Try to think out of the box!
Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Oscar Nominated or Winning Movies……….
Number of Times Seen – at least 5 times (Cable in the 80’s and 90’s, 10 Apr 2001, 15 Aug 2017 and 10 Mar 2022)

Brief Synopsis – A veteran master sergeant is tasked with getting a lax Marine recon unit into shape.
My Take on it – This is among one of Clint Eastwood’s best action movies.
The truth is, there isn’t much action in the film, but they still do an amazing job showing the way that Marines can act in both combat and non-combat situations.
Unlike many other films that deal with basic training of recruit and getting them into shape, this film, does things a bit differently.
The soldiers are already beyond training, but due to a lack of activity, they have become lax in their military discipline.
In comes Eastwood’s character to change all that.
Love the way that he is never phased by the way that the men treat him and always keeps a calm demeanor about him even when barking orders.
The do a great job showing how much of an outsider Eastwood’s character is even though, he is still very devoted to the Corps in every way.
The story plays out very well especially since it is a constant battle of wills between the characters.
This movie was nominated for an Oscar for Best Sound, yet didn’t manage to win.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The battle of Heartbreak Ridge was actually fought mostly by the U.S. Army’s 2nd Infantry Division. The battle became infamous, after the Division Commander ordered the 23rd Infantry Regiment and an attached French infantry battalion to stage a disastrous frontal assault straight up Heartbreak Ridge. Sergeant Major Choozoo (Arlen Dean Snyder) mentions that he and Gunnery Sergeant Highway (Clint Eastwood) later joined the Marines after leaving the Army’s 23rd Infantry Regiment. (From IMDB)
Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Comes quite close. The story is great and Eastwood is superb in the lead role.
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10) (no change from original review)
