“Sometimes it pays to be a nerd, guys.” – Louis Reed
Number of Times Seen – 1 (12 Mar 2022)
Brief Synopsis – A time traveling pilot travels back in time and must enlist the help of his 12 year old self and his father to try and save the world.
My Take on it – This was such a fun film.
The story is fresh and engaging and stays so entertaining from start to finish.
Ryan Reynolds is perfectly cast in the lead role and manages to give the character such an amazing range of emotions throughout as he not only must deal with saving the world but also reconciling with his own past.
Love the way that they don’t make the science aspects pf the story very complex and keep things understandable at so many levels.
The film is filled with lots of pop culture references which works so well throughout.
They not only refer to other time travel stories, but also find ways to show how much of a pop culture nerd this character can actually be.
They do a great job of trying to debunk previous other time travel references but do so in a subtle way instead of claiming to actually know the truth of how time travel works and within what parameters the rules should work.
The film actually has some plot holes within the way it is all explained, but it still remains quite enjoyable from start to finish.
The supporting cast also helps make this so much fun with Mark Ruffalo, Walker Scobell, Zoe Saldana , Jennifer Garner and Catherine Keener all adding so much to the story.
Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When Louis Reed (Mark Ruffalo) says that he ‘gets’ a students t-shirt during a lecture, the shirt has a picture of Nicolas Cage but the name John Travolta under it. This is a reference to the film Face Off (1997) when the two actors played each other. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
