Deep Water (2022)

“If you were married to anyone else, you’d be so f*cking bored you’d kill yourself.” – Melinda

Number of Times Seen – 1 (20 Mar 2022)

Brief Synopsis – After his wife’s boyfriend is found to be missing, a millionaire is suspected of killing him.

My Take on it – This was a pretty strange film.

Ben Affleck is a great actor and shows here that he can play both lovable and despised characters and in this movie his character can be both at various points along the way.

The story plays out in a convoluted way as the relationship between Affleck’s character and his wife played by Ana De Armas keeps changing at a moments notice.

This movie is based on a best selling novel which is probably much better due to the way that a novel can be so much more descriptive of events and of the thoughts of the characters in order to help develop them even more.

The way that things play out here feels a bit too superficial because they don;t take the time to try and explain the actions of the various characters hoping that it’s not necessary.

It actually is and skipping over it doesn’t help make things any more enjoyable to watch unfold because there really isn’t any character for the viewer to want to root for along the way.

This is quite unfortunate because they potential has something so much more powerful here and squandered the opportunity.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas dated for a while after the movie was filmed, and could be spotted traveling together and walking in LA. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
