Rescue in the Philippines: Refuge from the Holocaust (2013)

“Thousands of miles from Europe an unlikely group of poker players were planning a rescue.” – Narrator

Number of Times Seen – 1 (26 Mar 2022)

Brief Synopsis – Documentary about how with the help of some high level people, a rescue of thousands of Jewish refugees is planned and enacted.

My Take on it – Fascinating documentary that shed light on a little know decision that helps save so many people. The documentary does a wonderful job explaining the situation and uncovering some seemingly unbelievable facts that helps bring this rescue around. The story works really well and stays interesting throughout because of the way that it is presented. The fact that this all started over a simple poker game is mind-blowing to hear.

Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This is the story of how one freedom loving fledgling democracy bonded with the world’s other freedom loving fledgling democracy – Israel. On November 29, 1947, the Philippines cast the deciding U.N. vote in favor of Israeli statehood. (From Rescue in the Philippines)

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
