The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.
This month’s genre has been chosen by Tyler of the Geek Card Check and we will be reviewing our favorite Sports Themed Movies.

Try to think out of the box!
Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Sports Themed Movies..
“[the retiring president has just made a speech] Well, I thought my razor was dull until I heard his speech. And that reminds me of a story that’s so dirty I’m ashamed to think of it myself.” – Professor Wagstaff
Number of Times Seen – 1 (1 Apr 2022)
Brief Synopsis – The new president of a prestigious college hires two buffoons in order to try and win a big football match against a rival school.
My Take on it – Hilarious film that literally keep me laughing throughout. The Marx Brothers are amazing here due to their perfect timing and the way that they throw in lots of ‘zingers’ along the way. The premise of the film is great and manages to work even in a comedic setting like the one described here. The antics that these characters play out are so funny and that helps keep things so enjoyable from start to finish. The dialogue is witty and engaging and adds even more to the hilarity of everything that transpires here!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Thelma Todd’s character “Connie” is referred to in the film as being a “college widow”. This was a somewhat derogatory term at the time that referred to a young woman who remains near a college year after year to associate with male students. Such women were considered “easy”. In the film, Connie is shown to be involved with each of The Marx Brothers’ characters, as well as the principal antagonist Jennings. (From IMDB)
Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Absolutely! Who would have thought that the Marx Brothers would make such a fun and profound sports movie!
Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10)
