Genre Guesstimation – Happy Gilmore (1996)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s genre has been chosen by Tyler of the Geek Card Check and we will be reviewing our favorite Sports Themed Movies.

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Sports Themed Movies..

Number of Times Seen – 1 (4 Apr 2022)

Brief Synopsis – An aspiring hockey player with anger issues, tries his hand at golf.

My Take on it – This is a film that I have avoided on purpose for years because I’m not the biggest fan of Adam Sandler’s films. I’m glad I finally took at shot at watching this. Sandler’s role is great and the way that the story plays out is done really well. Loved seeing Bob Barker in a cameo here because even he can be hilarious if prompted well enough. The film does a nice job showing many of the class issues involved in professional sports and they know which buttons to push to keep the story flowing and engaging throughout.

Recommended!

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Comes really close. Fun film that works so much better than one might expect from Sandler.
