The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.
This month’s genre has been chosen by Matthew Simpson of Awesome Friday and we will be reviewing our favorite Non-Winning Oscar Best Picture Nominees.
Please get me your submissions by the 25th of May by sending them to AwesomeMatthew@movierob.net
Try to think out of the box!
Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Non-Winning Oscar Best Picture Nominees.
“Well, what am I supposed to do? You won’t answer my calls, you change your number. I mean, I’m not gonna be ignored, Dan! ” – Alex
Number of Times Seen – Between 3-5 times (Cable in the 80’s and 90’s, 17 Nov 2016 and 19 May 2022)

Brief Synopsis – After a one night stand, a married man must deal with the fact that his lover is stalking him and his family.
My Take on it – Excellent premise that was probably much more profound and powerful when it came out than it is now 35 years later. Michael Douglas and Glenn Close are both great here and it’s easy to feel for them, but something has been lost over the years and stories like this are much more desensitized in our current climate than they were back then. The story moves along well and certain aspects of the story have become quite iconic over the years. I can understand how this was nominated for numerous Oscars including Best Picture, but it just doesn’t manage to stand the test of time well enough.
Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – According to Glenn Close, people still come up to her to tell her “thanks, you saved my marriage!” (From IMDB)
Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Comes close. The story does age well at all and was probably much better received when it came out 35 years ago.
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10) (no change from original review)
