G.I. Joe: Arise, Serpentor, Arise! (1986)

“There can be no negotiation, you insignificant microbe!” – Serpentor

Number of Times Seen – 1 (29 May 2022)

Brief Synopsis – Cobra’s minions scour the globe for the DNA of former world leaders in order to create the ultimate leader and the Joes are the only ones who can try and stop them.

My Take on it – Quite a clever idea for a story which works almost as well here as it did in the comic book which first thought of it. The premise works really well and allows for things to also be a history lesson besides just being a comic book action story. The way that a story could utilize ideas about DNA and cloning from nearly 40 years ago and still get so much of the scientific ideas right is great.  Yes, this cartoon has always been a bit clunky since no one ever actually kills or wounds anyone despite being sharpshooters and and the dialogue is a bit dumbed down for kids, but overall, they get a lot right here and I wonder how they would be able to update such a story for modern times.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The Joe’s steal a laserdisc from Cobra the enemy. This is ironic since this movie is the only G.I. Joe episode on laserdisc. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
