Genre Guesstimation – Johnson Family Vacation (2004)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s genre has been chosen by me and we will be reviewing our favorite Family Vacation Movies.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Aug by sending them to FamilyVacation@movierob.net

Try to think out of the box!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Family Vacation Movies.

“Thanks for picking me up and opening the door know one does that any more, you must be a real man.” – Chrishelle Rene Boudreau

Number of Times Seen – 1 (4 Aug 2022)

Brief Synopsis – A family takes a cross country trip in order to show up at a family reunion where rivalries are reignited.

My Take on it – Really silly film that is saved by some of the comedic moments by Cedric the Entertainer. The characters are all pretty superficial and seem like caricatures. The plot moves along in a very family arc and doesn’t find a way to become more unique in all that it does. Cedric plays another character (a la Eddie Murphy) and from the midway point, things just get a bit too crazy.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Jason Mamoa’s feature film debut. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not quite. Pretty silly vacation story that goes too far.

Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10) (no change from original review)
