The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928)

“You claim that I am sent by the Devil. It’s not true. To make me suffer, the Devil has sent you… and you… and you… and you. ” – Jeanne d’Arc

Number of Times Seen – 1 (11 Aug 2022)

Brief Synopsis – After being accused of heresy , Joan of Arc tries to deal with her trail where the judges attempt to get her to change her mind.

My Take on it – Really strange and disjointed film that doesn’t work as well as one might hope. The camera cuts too quickly front shot to shot and it isn’t easy to sympathize with the story because something different is happening here the whole way through. I do understand that they are attempting something greater here, but it was lost on me.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – None of the actors wear any make-up, which was unheard of in the silent era. Carl Theodor Dreyer thought this lent strength to the characters’ faces. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
