Convict 13 (1920)

“Golf – the game that brings out the beast in men.” – Title Card

Number of Times Seen – 1 (18 Aug 2022)

Brief Synopsis – A golfer is mistaken for being a recently escaped convict and must find a way to get out of jail.

My Take on it – Really funny film that starts off on the right foot. The golf game played by Keaton is hilarious especially when the ball goes into the water trap and he uses a fish to tee off on.  The antics don’t stop there and the clever camera use helps make this story go places that this character would never have expected to go.  They do overuse the hammer joke, yet it still works for what it is meant to do.  This is one of the most violent silent films I’ve ever seen, which surprised me since I always assumed that they needed to tone down the violence in movies at the time, but despite this, it was still quite enjoyable to watch unfold.

Recommended!
