The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.
This month’s genre has been chosen by me and we will be reviewing our favorite Family Vacation Movies.
Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Aug by sending them to FamilyVacation@movierob.net
Try to think out of the box!
Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Family Vacation Movies.
“This is gonna be great! ” – Clark Griswold
Number of Times Seen – 1 (21 Aug 2022)
Brief Synopsis – Clark and Ellen Griswold take a trip to visit their son and take a detour to spend the night in a motel on the way.
My Take on it – Fun idea that doesn’t work as well as I had hoped. This was essential an advertisement for a company that deals with short term leases. The comic antics are fun to watch and obviously Chevy Chase does a nice job with what he is given. The film does a very good job tho of following in the footsteps of the four previous films in the series when it comes to slapstick. The story itself is pretty bland, but they manage to still find ways to get a small laugh at some of the things that happen along the way. That being said, it was great seeing these characters in another movie, even if it is only for the nostalgia purpose.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – During the 2010 Superbowl, Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo stepped back into the Clark and Ellen roles for a short film to advertise HomeAway Inc. (From IMDB)
Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Nope. Nice to see these characters again, but besides nostalgia, there isn’t much here.
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
