Genre Guesstimation – Lego Star Wars Summer Vacation (2022)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s genre has been chosen by me and we will be reviewing our favorite Family Vacation Movies.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Aug by sending them to FamilyVacation@movierob.net

Try to think out of the box!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Family Vacation Movies.

“Come on out in the sun now. Come on out and have fun now. Fly over to a place In space. So far, far away.” – Vic Vankoh

Number of Times Seen – 1 (21 Aug 2022)

Brief Synopsis – As the characters get ready for a vacation, Finn is visited by numerous ‘Force Ghosts’ who tell him their favorite holiday adventures.

My Take on it – Pretty bland addition to this series because of the way it is presented. The various vacation ‘tales’ told by these characters do a nice job of weaving together these stories within the regular Star Wars canon. I think in certain ways they overdo things here because of the way that they tie in locations and events from previous Star Wars stories which makes this seem so much more of a rehash of those stories instead of something new and innovative.  The use of Lego to tell these kind of stories is always fun and I am constantly in awe about the amount of work that must go in to making these films even if they aren’t as profound as one might hope for. Love how they found a way to bring Weird Al into the fold here

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic is known for playing the accordion. His character in this special, Vic Vankoh, plays a Bandfill, the instrument used by Nalan Cheel of the Modal Nodes. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not at all. Story doesn’t move along well enough and feels like a TV show recap episode instead of something more innovative.

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
