“Sometimes we just have to start over, from scratch, to make things right, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do. We’re going to build a brand-new city where Detroit now stands – an example to the world.” – The Old Man
Number of Times Seen – at least twice (Theater in ’90 and 5 Sep 2022)
Brief Synopsis – RoboCop tries to continue to protect Detroit from crime, but business and political problems cause more trouble than they should.
My Take on it – Horrendous sequel that is quite shocking as to how bad it is.
This film was directed by Irwin Kirshner, yes THE Irwin Kirshner of Star Wars fame and it’s amazing that he would sign on for such a poorly made story.
Peter Weller and Nancy Allen also return for this poorly made sequel.
The special effects are terrible and it looks so fake as to the way things play out.
The plot has been used many times over and their interpretation of corruption in both the business and political worlds just doesn’t mesh very well.
The action scenes are overdone and with such a thin plot, it’s hard to root for anyone, including the title character.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The scene in which RoboCop opens fire around the head of someone who is smoking, after which he says ‘Thank you for not smoking’, was actually licensed and run as a public service announcement ahead of several different films in many non-smoking movie theaters during the summer movie season that year. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (1/10)
