“You know, George, I feel that in a small way we are doing something important. Satisfying a fundamental urge. It’s deep in the race for a man to want his own roof and walls and fireplace, and we’re helping him get those things in our shabby little office.” – Pa Bailey

Brief Synopsis – A guardian angel is sent to Earth to protect a pious man who feels he has no choice but to end his own life.
My Take on it – Such an amazing film that even after close to 80 years still works so well. Jimmy Stewart was born to play this role and has become so synonymous with it over the years. The story is et up really well and it feels like a biopic and that helps endear the lead character to the audience. Frank Capra created a masterpiece with this film and it has stood the test of time so well because the story, characters and situations described are so relatable to anyone watching. The dialogue is written in a very crisp and profound way that adds so much to the story especially since it knows precisely when to interject with a comic line along the way. The connections between the stories and characters from different parts of this character’s life is done so well and this leads to numerous payoffs along the way. Can’t wait to watch this again in the near future. I am even contemplating doing this minute by minute in the near future.
Highly Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – While filming the scene in which George prays in the bar, James Stewart was so overcome that he began to sob. Frank Capra later re-framed and blew up the shot because he wanted to catch that expression on Stewart’s face. This is why the shot looks so grainy compared with the rest of the film. (From IMDB)
Rating – Oscar Worthy (10/10) (no change from original review)
