MovieRob’s Birthday Bash of Potential Hidden Gems 2023 (#43 of 50) – Two for the Money (2005)

January is my birthday month, so I decided that I would try and do something quite unique and special for this milestone in my life. In the past, I’ve watched and reviewed some of my favorites movies, but this time, I will be doing something different.  This year, I will be turning 49, so I decided to watch 50 new movies (49+1 for good luck) (one for each year) that I’ve never seen from the year before my birth (1973) until today in a random order over the course of this month.  …

Hope you enjoy!

This is film #43 of the 50.

Let’s continue with…

“You know, the best part of the best drug in the world isn’t the high. It’s the moment just before you take it. The dice are dancing on the table. Between now and the time they stop, that’s the greatest high in the world. ” – Walter Abrams

Number of Times Seen – 1 (27 Jan 2023)

Brief Synopsis – An injured former football star gets connected to one of the largest sports betting industries in the country.

My Take on it – This is a film that works due to the performances of its two leads. Al Pacino is almost always able to bring it home and just like him, Matthew McConaughey also is so amazing in his performances. Having the two of them together is true touchdown material. The story revolves around legal sports betting and they do a nice job explaining how it all works and also where the faults are in the system. The film’s characters work on adrenaline throughout and that helps make things so engaging and gripping throughout. The fact that this is based on a true story also helps make in even more powerful.

Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia –  Rene Russo’s husband, Dan Gilroy, wrote the part of Al Pacino’s wife Toni especially for Russo and tailored it to fit her perfectly. He even used Russo’s real-life sister’s name Toni as the name of the character. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
