The Croods (2013)

“I was in love once. He was a hunter, I was a gatherer. It was quite the scandal. We fed each other berries, we danced. Then my father smashed him with a rock and traded me to your grandfather.” – Gran

Number of Times Seen – 1 (15 Feb 2023)

Brief Synopsis – A caveman and his family must travel across a dangerous area to find safety after their cave is destroyed.

My Take on it – Fun film that works quite well. The characters are suppose to be simplistic, but they find ways to help make them seem so relevant to not only their world, but ours too. The parent-child dynamics are timeless and that also helps keep things moving along. Nicholas Cage does a fine job in the lead role and he plays the father so well. The fantastical world created here is enjoyable to watch especially when one tries to figure out which varying species are being alluded to along the way. The story is all about family and it doesn’t matter in what period of time the story takes place, because in the end, it all should still be the same.

Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Chunky the “Macawnivore” started out as a bit of a joke in the art department. Artist Leighton Hickman was bored with the drab colors intended for creatures in the desert scenes, and painted the saber-tooth tiger with bright “parrot” colors. The filmmakers liked the look for the “Macawnivore” so much that it made it to the final film. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
