“It is very very hard to register how high the casualties were in the First World War. Americans, I don’t think have ever seen how simply catastrophic and destructive it was, how stupidly ugly it was in destruction of human life, limb, property, everything.”- Jay Winter

Brief Synopsis – Documentary about America’s involvement in the First World War.
My Take on it – Such an amazing documentary that is able to tell the overall American connections to The Great War. They dissect the political, social and military aspects of the war and are able to explain so much of why the US took the various actions that they dis. The documnetary is nearly 6 hours long, but due to the comprehensive way that it does things, it feels so poignant from start to finish. The film utilizes letters and diaries of some of those who fought in the war to get an even more detailed perspective on everything that happened during that time. The footage and pictures shot over a century ago helps give the viewer an even more intimate look at everything that transpired there.
Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When talking about how much material the US will need to create, the narrator includes 4 million Enfield rifles. The US produced large numbers of Springfield 1903 rifles as their main battle rifle. The Enfield is an English produced rifle. (From IMDB)
Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10)
