Switchback (1997)

switchback“Cause he told the truth, and once you’ve heard the truth, everything else is just cheap whiskey.” – Sheriff Buck Olmstead

Number of Times Seen – 1 (13 Aug 2013)

Brief Synopsis – An FBI agent chases a killer who kidnapped his son.

My Take on it – This movie has a great premise, it just doesn’t know how to execute it very well.

The best parts of this movie are the fact that until the halfway point, you are never 100% sure of who everybody is.  We know that not everyone is telling the truth, but sometimes trying to figure out what is truth and what are lies can make a movie great.

This movie has the potential to be great, but just doesn’t do it well enough.

Danny Glover, Dennis Quaid, R. Lee Ermey and Jared Leto all play their parts well, but in the end, the script and plot are what make them fail.

There are much better cat and mouse movies to choose from. Fargo (1996) and The Departed (2006) are good examples of thrillers that do the cops and robbers bit very well.

Bottom Line – Great idea, but plot was pretty mediocre and there wasn’t much suspense.

Rating – BAFTA worthy
