Being that Darren and I both love watching lots and lots of movies, we decided to start a new weekly series where we challenge each other to watch a new movie that we enjoyed and feel the other one might also.
The rules are simple; it has to be a movie we have NEVER seen, (not just not reviewed)
Every Tuesday, we will both post both reviews on our sites.
Let’s hope we both can add lots of new favorites to our personal lists
For my review this week, here are my thoughts on…..
“God will forgive them. He’ll forgive them and allow them into Heaven. I can’t live with that. ” – Richard
Number of Times Seen – 1 (2 Nov 2015)
Brief Synopsis – A soldier returns home to enact revenge on the men that bullied his younger brother.
My Take on it – This is a movie that I had heard some great things about and hoped that I too would like it.
This is a very interesting take on the genre of revenge flicks, but it just doesn’t deliver enough satisfaction that a film like this is expected to give.
Ultimately, I didn’t feel enough sympathy for either side and just wanted everyone to try and kill one another until their is one guy left standing.
The pace is deliberately slow in order to help us absorb the interesting psychological and moral themes explored.
Has a few twists and turns along the way that surprise us now and again, but overall I would say this is just good, not great.
I know that Emma will now hate me for now loving this, but ce la vie! 🙂
Bottom Line – Interest take on the revenge genre, but I just couldn’t feel for either side and didn’t care what would happen. It’s deliberately slow, but that helps to deal with the moral and psychological themes that this movie deals with. Would have liked to enjoy this more, but something just didn’t feel right about it all.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Mark and Marie’s two little boys Craig and Matt were played by real life brothers Craig and Matt Considine, Paddy Considine’s nephews.(From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy

I could never hate you Rob.
And – in all honesty – I don’t think you’d ever forgive yourself if I did. Am I right?
Lol 🙂
I can’t really respond to your views about the film. I disagree with pretty much everything you said (noooo!) but there’s no point being churlish and arguing the toss, we all like different things 🙂

shame, if you don’t see that coming it makes the film shocking, while i am not a fan of the violence i did think the basic story is great

Interesting post. I also have heard good things but this has lowered the expectations a bit. I’ve been meaning to watch this one for quite some time now, I’m interested in these psychological themes you say are explored.

A friend gave it to me on DVD years ago, I should probably get around to watching it!! I’ve been focusing so much on writing about recent films that there are a ton of old films with good reps that I haven’t seen yet

Oh yeah I gathered that, I’m just amazed at how many movies you can watch! I need to build up more of a blu-ray collection as most of the movies I see are at the cinemas
