Number of movies seen from this year – 123
Number of movies reviewed – 125 (Including 4 Encore Reviews)
2004 was an interesting year for me in my life. It was the year I got married for the first time and I was also in the Police Academy for the first 5 months of the year.
Of my top ten this year, only 2 of them were actually seen in the theater due to me having a very busy year (#3 and #7)
My #1 is a movie that I saw two years later and due to my impending divorce at the time, I felt a very strong connection to the characters and their situations. I still believe that it’s Payne’s best movie.
As you can see, only 3 of the 5 Best Picture Nominees made my list; I am not a fan of The Aviator at all, and I enjoyed Ray, but it still didn’t make the list.
I can’t say that this was the strongest year for movies overall, but there are definitely some enjoyable films on the list.
If I ever make a top 10/20 or even a top 30 of the decade, I’d be very surprised if anything beyond #2 make it.

Not as hilarious as I had hoped. But I was humming the tune throughout my four months there. Yes it is 😉

Rob, you’re breaking my heart! No Five People? No Spider-Man 2? Some of these I need to see, but 3 and 8 didn’t thrill me like those two. Something the Lord Made is also really good. Still planning to see Sideways sometime.

Agreed that Sideways is Payne’s best. And that it was the best of the year!
Great list.
