Genre Guesstimation – Septem8er Tapes (2004)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

Next month’s Genre has been chosen by Tim of FilmFunkel  We will be reviewing our favorite Found Footage movies.  In order to get a better idea as to what this genre might include, check out this post by Tim.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of December by sending them to TisTheFFSeason@movierob.net  Try to think out of the box!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Found Footage Films…

Number of Times Seen – 1 (23 Dec 2015)

Brief Synopsis – An American journalist travels to Afghanistan one year after 9/11 to try and find Bin Laden.

My Take on it – When I heard of the premise of this movie, I was quite intrigued because in my eyes, it had so much potential for working.

Unfortunately, that is the farthest thing from the truth because I found this to be really boring as it slowly moved along.

There are actually two things that I liked about it tho.

The first is the way the camera captures gun battles because it feels quite realistic.

The second is the utilization of the found footage which surprisingly works well and makes things a bit more believable (barely).

Unfortunately, I must say that this was a wasted 90 minutes of my movie watching life… 😦

Bottom Line -Interesting premise, but not executed well at all. The only aspect that works well is the found footage one but all in all this is unfortunately a complete waste of time.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The film was first presented at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2004, where First Look Media acquired worldwide distribution rights. (From Wikipedia)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not even close. This was extremely boring despite having an interesting premise

Rating – Razzie Worthy
