“You have no grounds for divorce.” – Judge

Brief Synopsis – A woman must deal with her husband who refuses to grant her a divorce while fighting an uphill battle against the courts that is unwilling or unable to help her.

My Take on it – Being that this genre is not among my favorites and definitely not within my own comfort zone, it wasn’t easy for me to choose my favorite film.

In the end, I decided to go with this very personal choice of a film from Israel about the flaws in the court system that sometime causes much pain and discomfort for the parties involved.

I went thru a very messy divorce ten years ago and personally had to deal with this system and it took 16 months before the divorce was finalized. (To read more about my personal ordeal, read my original review which explains things a bit more)

Yes, I’m very glad that that is all behind me now, but I know that there are other men (and also women) who suffer daily due to the way the system was build.

I won’t get into the nitty-gritty detail of it all right now, but this film definitely does a lot correctly.

I was immediately transported back to that claustrophobic room when I needed to state my case and it wasn’t easy to watch it all happen again.

I agree that there are flaws in the system, but I do not believe that it is entirely wrong all across the board.

The performances here are extremely passionate and all of the actors do a superb job creating the true atmosphere of that very small and closed room.

The debate will continue to wage forward as to what is right and wrong with the system, but here is not the place to do so.

This film only touches the tip of the iceberg and rarely does a film get things so personal like this did.

Bottom Line – Extremely personal film for me that makes it even more difficult to watch. The system obviously has its flaws and this film does a great job showing one of them. Amazing and passionate performances by all of the actors involved. The debate on the issues remain but this movie only touches tge tip of the iceberg. Highly Recommended!
