Streets of Fire (1984)

STREETS_OF_FIRE“I’ve been a soldier, ’til I ran out of wars. ” – McCoy

Number of Times Seen – 1 (3 Aug 2016)

Brief Synopsis – A man returns to his hometown to find out that his ex-girlfriend has been kidnapped by bikers, so he goes on a quest to rescue her.

My Take on it – I’m actually quite shocked that I’ve never seen this film before since it’s very 80’s and is filled with lots of great actors from the 80’s

I really liked the way that this film seems like a medieval quest or perhaps a Western by the way the characters all get together and then go together on a mission.

I was quickly drawn in to the movie by the way that they intriduced us to teh characters who are so fun to watch as we learn about who they are and why they do what they do.

This film has a superb soundtrack and I found myself singing along with most of the popular 80’s tunes that kept popping up along the way.

The cast is made up of lots of known actors; Michael Pare, Rick Moranis, Willem Dafoe, Amy Madigan, Bill Paxton,  and Diane Lane all are excellent here.  I liked seeing Robert Townsend, Grant Bush, Mykelti Williamson and Stoney Jackson as the singing group The Sorels.

It seemed as if the cast was having such a great time making this movie and they help keep this film entertaining the whole way through.

This film is known or having a cult status despite not doing well in the theater at all and it’s quite easy to see why when watching this.

Director Walter Hill was really able to get the idea of mixing genres to make something that doesn’t really have a definitive time and place.

Bottom Line – Liked the way that they based this idea on a medieval quest or a Western.  The characters are fun to watch. Amazing music helps keep things moving. Great cast also helps keep this film entertaining the whole way through. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This was intended to be the first in a trilogy of action films starring Michael Paré as Tom Cody. However, its failure at the box office had put an end to the project. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
