The Zookeeper’s Wife (2017)

“We have room…we could hide them.” – Antonina

Number of Times Seen – 1 (4 May 2017)

Brief Synopsis – After the Germans invade Poland in 1939, the city’s zookeeper and his wife decide to try and save as many Jews as they can from the long arm of the Third Reich.

My Take on it – This film is another great story of The Holocaust where we are able to see some of the good that people were willing to do at the risk of their own lives during a terrible and evil time.

This film is able to be both thrilling and intriguing at the same time as we learn about this little known story of two heroic people who truly risked everything in order to do the right thing.

Jessica Chastain once again shows us all how great of an actress she is with this role which helps show her broad range from film to film over the years.

I really can’t wait to see what other great roles she will give us in the future.

I was amazed to learn that all of the animals used in this film were real (see Trivia section below) because it has become commonplace to use CGI instead of the real animals and it’s great to show that they still can make films by utilizing real animal-human interactions even when technology allows for us to skip over that ability.

The story itself is quite captivating and you never know what will happen as things keep moving forward.

This film deserves to be listed among the Canon of Holocaust films that keep showing us how important it is to remember what happened and know the little stories that need to be told in order for us to know how much good there was during this time of despair and horror.

Bottom Line – This was done in such a great way that it is able to be intriguing and suspenseful the entire time.  Chastain once again proves how prolific an actress she is because her range is so broad from film to film.  I can’t wait to see what she has for us in the future.  The story is riveting and this film deserves it place among the canon of realistic Holocaust picture who’s stories must be told for us all to remember what happened. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – All the animals you see are real, there is no CGI use. (From IMDB)
