xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017)

Brief Synopsis – Xander Cage returns to action in order to try and stop a rogue group from wrecking havoc on the world by downing satellites on world cities.

My Take on it – This is actually the film that encouraged me to review this trilogy because I figured that after a 12 year absence, if they have revived the series, then they must have a fun idea to resent.

…and the return of Vin Diesel to the story.

Boy was I wrong…

This film, like the previous two is lackluster and mediocre.

The storyline itself is quite weak yet the action scenes make this film worthwhile to see at least once.

That, in essence, is what this series is all about, showing us fun action sequences where the characters preform death defying stunts all across the globe.

I liked the fact that they introduced us to more members of the X team and that we got to learn about each and every one of the team’s specialties over the course of the film.

Samuel L. Jackson once again steals the show as he did in the previous two films. His character is still the mos interesting and he gets the best lines.

Bottom Line – Another mediocre entry in the series. I liked the way that they were able to feature many more members of the X program where we get to learn about each of their specialty skills. The story itself is pretty weak and this (like the other films) is only truly worth watching for the death defying action scenes preformed around the globe themselves.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Actress Nina Dobrev, a genuine thrill seeker by her own admission, was so displeased to see that her character in this film was going to be just some “tech geek”, that she kept asking the director to give her some kind of an action scene until he gave in and added a part where she gets to use a gun. However, because this hadn’t been the plan, she became the only cast member in an action scene to not get any sort of gun training beforehand (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
