Parasite (2019)

“[to his son] You know what kind of plan never fails? No plan. No plan at all. You know why? Because life cannot be planned. Look around you. Did you think these people made a plan to sleep in the sports hall with you? But here we are now, sleeping together on the floor. So, there’s no need for a plan. You can’t go wrong with no plans. We don’t need to make a plan for anything. It doesn’t matter what will happen next. Even if the country gets destroyed or sold out, nobody cares. Got it? ” Ki-taek

Number of Times Seen – 1 (19 Dec 2019)

Brief Synopsis – An unemployed and poverty stricken family envies a wealthy family and slowly begin to integrate themselves into their lives.

My Take on it – This is a film that I saw after seeing that it has received a lot of recent hype during the recent awards season.

The films premise is quite interesting and they do a nice job of letting things play out in a way that is satisfying and unexpected.

Really liked the way that the film is able to show the contrasting lifestyles of two families who are at different ends of the socioeconomic spectrum and we get to see how far some of them are willing to go in order to try and change their own standing on that ladder of success.

The story is quite intriguing and they manage to throw out numerous surprises along the way that are enhanced by several twist and turns along the way that are completely unexpected and help make things feel very unique and fresh in how things are presented.

The characters all feel quite interchangeable which works well when trying to show the parallel lives of these characters.

This helps show that even people and families that on the surface seem so very different could actually have many similarities between them when you look more closely at everything going on.

Bottom Line – Interesting idea that works quite well due to the way that the story plays out. The film does a nice job looking at the contrasting socioeconomic standards and the kind of things one needs to do in order to try and change that status. This film has a very intriguing premise and the way that things move along is filled with numerous surprises that come about due to some nice twists and turns along the way that help make things feel quite unique and fresh.  Liked the way that the characters all feel interchangeable since that helps make things feel even more similar between these two families that on the surface are different yet when one looks closer, it’s easy to see the similarities between them at the same time.
